Had a very strange experience the
other night. I was sitting here in my office reading Jason &
Grants book that was just released (at the time), and I had reached
the 12th story. oddly enough it was midnight. Suddenly, all the
smoke detectors in the house went off. They are the AC kind with
battery backup, and are tied in so they will all go if one goes.
They went off for about 6 beeps and stopped. I jumped up in a
panic to go investigate. It was kind of strange that they only
went for a few seconds. It was not a bad battery, as the bad one
will keep chirping every so often, and it has been 3 weeks now
with no other incidents. Anyway, I checked around, stuck my head
in all the bedrooms and sniffed around the hallway, but found
nothing. Maybe being a firefighter, I was extra suspicious of
what went on, and got back up and checked several more times over
the next hour. Never found any cause, no power surges, no weather
occuring, nothing. No one else awoke to the alarms either, which
was really odd.
What was really strange was what
went on in that hour. After the initial look, I came back to my
office and tried to return to my reading. I had this awful spine
chilling spooked feeling. Extremely like something was there and
I was not alone. I could not shake it. It progressed during that
hour. It got to the point that I could not do anything but sit
and stare at my computer. I couldn't read or concentrate on anything.
As it progressed, I felt more and more spooked, like I have never
felt before, even on investigations. I literally felt like all
my energy was being drained, then progressed to a headache, nausea,
and total weakness. I felt like the life was being sucked out
of me. At some point, I got the feeling from nowhere that it might
be my Mother. She passed away 5 years ago this December. I don't
know why I felt that, it just popped into my head. I even verbally
spoke to her saying "I love you and miss you, but if you
are here, you are draining me and causing me to feel ill, and
spooked".
It didn't subside. It continued
to the point that I gave in and went to bed, feeling terrible,
and still having concerns that there may have been a smoke or
CO2 issue in the house. Looking up CO2 symptoms, they almost matched,
but that detector didn't go off. The next day it dawned on me
that that night before was my Daughters Birthday. Her and my Mother
were close. I am now almost completely convinced that it was my
Mother coming to visit her. No feelings or activity has happened
since. (although I feel that chilled feeling a little now while
remembering and writing this). We have been in this house for
almost 2 years now, and it is only 7 years old, so I doubt any
deaths had occured here, but there is rich history in this area
of pioneers, Civil War and Indian battles, etc.
I have laid in bed many nights,
not quite asleep, and while squinting, can see shadows moving
around my bedroom doorway. I just write it off to being tired
and squinting causing me to see things. The other day, my oldest
Daughter told me she has been seeing shadow people moving around
her bedroom doorway also. Same house, same hallway, feet apart.
This was kind of unsettling. Guess we will see what happens next.
UPDATE-1/08- My 14 y/o Daughter
just told me that while she was standing at the front door, looking
out the window, waiting for me to come home, she saw a "purple
outline of a person walk by the front door and go into the wall
to my office". This was in daylight, around 5-6 PM. Luckily
it didn't seem to scare her. She said it was her size, maybe less,
like a child.
UPDATE- 4/08- While laying on the
couch watching TV, the smoke detectors did their thing again.
They would all go off for about 5 beeps, and then stop for no
apparent reason. This always spooks me, from a Firefighter mentality,
as well as just being strange. I didn't even have time to get
up when I noticed what looked like someone had passed by the window
to the backyard outside on the patio. With the same speed of motion,
it appeared to go through the back door, causing a plant (that
came from my Moms funeral) to sway like the breeze of someone
walking by it. The AC was not on, and there was nothing that would
cause it to move like that. Also, many times at night, while sitting
here on the computer, in the quiet, while everyone else is asleep,
including the cats who are laying on the floor of my office, I
will hear noises as though someone is in the kitchen. But when
I go look, there is nothing. It has been suggested that we do
an investigation on my house, but I am not so sure I want to know
the results, mainly for fear of getting some disturbing EVP's.
I know my wife and Daughter don't need to know any such results
that may be found either.
UPDATE- 3/30/09- We continue to
have activity here. Usually shadows moving quickly behind doorways.
I had another smoke detector incident the other night around 3:00AM.
Everyone was in bed and the one in our bedroom started to beep
every 2 minutes or so, like if the battery needed to be replaced.
I was so tired, I wasn't about to get up and get the ladder and
a battery, and just tried to go to sleep and hoped it would stop.
After about 4-5 rounds of this single beep, it stopped. It didn't
do it again, but I remembered it a couple days later and changed
the battery again just to be sure. This morning when I got up,
as I walked into the kitchen, once I got passed the fridge, I
caught out of the corner of my eye, what looked like someone peeking
their head and one shoulder around the fridge, within 3 feet of
me. I was still half asleep and just assumed it was my wife. After
a few minutes I realized she had already left the house, and my
daughter was still asleep. Glad it happened early in the morning
instead of late at night. : )
UPDATE- 10/13/09- Had yet another
occurrence with the smoke detectors and some creepy stuff going
on. Same duration of about 5 seconds, same very energized feeling
in the hallway which centers between all 5 of the detectors. I
have an almost constant feeling someone is either standing behind
me, looking over my shoulder, or peering out from behind a doorway.
We have considered doing an investigation here, But I am not sure
I want to while still living here. Maybe when we move out some
day. Oh, and we still have the ghost cat. You can feel it jump
up on the end of the bed at night, and take a few steps up the
bed next to my legs. You can feel the covers move as if a cat
is walking on the bed. Not scary, but freaky.
