| "My mother, who has raised me and my brother all by herself since
I was 2 years old, has given me the strength I need to do all the activities
I have and to excel in academics. She's shown me that no one is going
to 'baby' me for my life and that I had to do for my own. These are
the best qualities she could have instilled in me for my success in school
and in life." - Theresa Buitron |
The second recipient of the H.O.P.E. Scholarship
is Wende Bridges. Wende played Basketball at Jay and was in the Toastmasters.
She also worked part-time while in High School. She plans to earn
a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, then a Master's degree.
Wende loves working with kids and newborns and desires to specialize in
Pediatrics or Obstetrics and eventually become a head nurse.

| "All my studying and listening to long lectures has finally paid
off. Soon I get to participate in what my mom likes to call 'the
real world.' Success shouldn't be something I dream about.
It needs to be something I can live through and actually experience!" -

The third recipient of the H.O.P.E. Scholarship
is Tamera Jones. She was a member of the Mustang Band, played Varsity soccer
and held a part-time job during High School. Her major course of

| "While I've been at Jay one thing has made my view change.
My mother became ill with cancer... it seems I have so much to do, but
with so little time to do it in. All my life I've told myself and
my mother I would become a nurse one day.... I want to make her and myself
proud!" - Tamara Jones |
The Board of Directors congratulates each
of these recipients on their accomplishments, and looks forward to helping
even more students at John Jay High School realize thier dreams.
To do that, we will need your support.
